About LegUp Equestrian
Since you’ve found our site, you likely already know that horse life is EXPENSIVE! Whether you’re just getting started and need to outfit a new rider or you’ve been riding for years and want to make room for new apparel and equipment, LegUp Equestrian Consignment is a site dedicated to providing an opportunity for riders to both save money and earn money.
Our consignment model is slightly different from a traditional consignment business in that we don’t house and distribute the consignment items. Sellers create an account and load their items onto our site for buyers to view. And when a purchase is made, sellers ship the item directly to the buyer. This model helps keep overhead low, which means more earnings for our sellers and more savings for our buyers.
Our Story

You’ve heard of a “gift that keeps on giving”, right? Our story is more of a “gift that keeps on costing.” In 2014 when asked for a Christmas list, our then kindergarten aged daughter, Lexi, requested horse riding lessons. Aunt Jill came through with a gift certificate for a few lessons and Lexi fell head over boots in love with horses and riding. Not having any prior horse experience, we couldn’t have even begun to imagine how much that thoughtful gift would cost us over the years! Lexi started with a lesson every other week, but quickly wanted (and needed) more time on a horse so we started going once a week. She had her first show experience in 2017 at a local schooling show. At 16, she still loves everything about horses and riding and spends as much time as possible at the barn.

The idea for LegUp Equestrian came after I purchased my growing daughter two brand new pairs of Ariat show breeches. The first time she wore them, she informed me that she didn’t like the material and really would rather have another pair of the Kerrits show breeches from the year before that she had outgrown. (The Ariat breeches were perfectly fine and great quality. Lexi just knows what she likes!) Trying to lessen the burden on our bank account, I decided to see what kind of consignment options were out there for buying used equestrian items. I wanted to find something like Poshmark specifically for horse people. It didn’t exist.

I pitched the idea to start our own site to my husband. While he thought it was a good idea, he didn’t fully jump on board until we were at a party with our barn family and riding team. He witnessed a large crowd of riders around the trunk of an SUV looking through another rider’s clothes that she was selling. In that moment, he realized we needed to get to work because there is clearly a need for a place to buy and sell gently used riding apparel and horse gear!
